The most important duty of a Notary Public is to deter fraud by positively identifying a signer, confirming they are who they say they are, that the signer understands the context of the document they're signing, and that they're a willing participant in the transaction.

A Notary Public is a person of integrity appointed by the Secretary of State. As an official representative of the State, a Notary Public certifies the proper execution of some of life’s most important documents such as Real Estate transfer documents, Mortgage Loan documents, Power of Attorney documents, Estate documents, Trust and Living Wills and Adoption documents just to name a few.

A Notary Public may also administer an Oath or Affirmation. Administering an Oath or Affirmation, means the signer swears to a higher power or declares under penalty of perjury that the information contained in a document is true and correct.
